The Story

Guerlain's L'Art and La Matière collection is where the house experiments with its most ambitious compositions, and Cherry Oud Eau de Parfum, launched in 2022 and composed by Delphine Jelk, is one of its most distinctive entries. It takes oud, one of perfumery's heaviest materials, and lacquers it with a tart cherry note, bridging the gap between gourmand sweetness and dark, leathery depth. Aromatica carries the Cherry Oud decant in Bangladesh across all four sizes.

Fragrance Notes

Top: Cherry, Fruity Notes

Heart: Turkish Rose Absolute, Bulgarian Rose Essence

Base: Agarwood (Oud), Leather

The Scent

The opening is fruity and immediately recognizable. Cherry arrives with a sweet, slightly tart quality, more juicy cherry than medicinal cherry. It is not a Lost Cherry clone. Where Tom Ford's version is candy-like and gourmand, Guerlain's take is darker, more structural, and headed somewhere different. Within ten to fifteen minutes, a duo of roses takes the center. Turkish rose absolute brings a rich, slightly honeyed quality, and Bulgarian rose essence adds freshness and a faintly green facet. The rose here is dark, velvety, and luxurious, typical of Guerlain's expertise with the ingredient. The cherry does not disappear but recedes into a fermented, wine-like quality that sits behind the roses, adding color without sweetness. As the fragrance moves into its base, oud and leather assert themselves. The oud is not aggressive. Guerlain's treatment is elegant and well-mannered, woody and slightly smoky without the animalic funk that some oud fragrances carry. Leather adds a dry, slightly suede-like quality that gives the base a dense, enveloping character. Community opinion is split. Some find the oud too smoky or too medicinal in the opening, particularly in the first hour. Others praise the way the cherry-rose-oud interaction evolves over time, with the fragrance becoming more beautiful as it settles. The comparison to Lost Cherry is inevitable but misleading. Cherry Oud is a rose-oud fragrance with cherry as a supporting player, not a cherry fragrance with a sweet base. Performance is strong, with good longevity and moderate projection. This is a fragrance for someone who wants cherry used as an accent in a serious, leathery composition rather than as the main event. Cherry Oud is part of Guerlain's broader exploration of oud in 2022, which also included Oud Nude and Oud Khol. Of the three, Cherry Oud is the most polarizing. Oud Nude is sweeter and more approachable, Oud Khol is drier and more leathery, and Cherry Oud sits in between with its fruity-floral-leather character. The oud sourced from Bangladesh, on the border with Assam, is the same quality material Guerlain uses across the collection, and it shows in the refinement of the base. This is not a synthetic oud approximation. It has depth, texture, and a warmth that develops over hours rather than minutes.

When to Wear

Cherry Oud works best in fall and winter, particularly for evening events and formal occasions where a luxurious, dark fragrance feels appropriate. Browse the Winter collection at Aromatica for more cold-weather options.

Who Is It For

Someone who enjoys rose-oud compositions and wants a version with a unique cherry accent. If you find most cherry fragrances too sweet or too gourmand and want one that leans dark, leathery, and sophisticated, Cherry Oud is Guerlain's answer to that.

For a different Guerlain experience, the house offers a wide range from fresh to oriental. Browse the full Guerlain collection at Aromatica.

Available as an authentic decant in Bangladesh at Aromatica in 3ml, 5ml, 9ml, and 15ml.
